Hi. My husband went to use his laptop last night & even though all the symbol lights were on the screen remained blank. I tried it earlier on & the power light came on for a second ot two & then nothing. It was fully charged. We`re both novices re laptop. TIA.

does it sound as if it's starting up?

if it does - do you have access to a "propper" desktop monitor you could use ?

how old is the lappy?
do you have the manual?

possibly Fn + f5 could be used to cycle the screen through
laptop screen - external monitor- laptop + external
(see the manual)
Question Author
The laptop is only about a month old. Have done the Fn+F5 & nothing at all.
Question Author
Sorry forgot to say that yes it does start up. We can hear that
do you have access to a separate monitor? That would prove the point for certain

If it's new possibly a connector has worked out.
(often in transit they get shaken more than is good for them)

The only other pc is the main one. The lap top did work at first although my husband only put it on for a few minutes each day.
si is the main cp a destop

if yes ...
unplug the monitor ... you should have a coresponding socket on the laptop
switch on the monitor ... THEN switch on the lappy ...
if no pikky ... return to shop
Question Author
Yes my other pc is a desktop. I know I`m thick, but how can I unplug the monitor & then switch it back on???? Where do I unplug it from?? I have no idea what`s what on the pc as it was set up for us. As stated before, yes I am thick.
Have you tried FN with F6?
Question Author
Yes. We`ve done everything suggested in the manual Ethel.
try some other Fn + fsomething (often if you look you'll see a screen icon on the key ... on most it's f5 ... but it's not certain

then
look on the back of the pc .... you'll see the monitor has two cables ... one is mains power
the other will be sticking into the back of the system box

unscrew the connector (2 long finger screws) ....pull then bung it into the socket on the back of your laptop (it will only fit 1 - and will only go in the right way up ... so don't worry).

before you switch the lappy on press the power button of the monitor.
power on the lappy ....
if no joy ... take the lappy back .... it's bust

Thank you. Sorry I`m so thick not understanding the pc jargon lol
Sorry chuck

it's a PC I can't make it any more straight forward
there isnt an easier "jargon"

you really do need to either take the machine back to the shop and get their opinion
or contact http://www.pchomehelp.org/
and they'll send someone round.

if it's any consolation ... I could never get the hang of the piano
Question Author
Hi ACtheTROLL. See, I don`t explain properly lol. I meant the "jargon" used in pc land lol. I understood your last post better. Thanks.
lol
no problem - I teach this stuff ... you could be a rocket scientist compared to some of my muppets!
TLAs (three letter abbreviations) sort of go with the job ... it's impossible to use "ordinary lingo" and not sound patronising (put the fairy pink wire in the ...)

do the swap keep us up to date .....
I feel personaly responsible now ;-)
