The IT bloke at work as changed something on my Laptop and now it cant get on the internet at home. i have a full strengh signal, it tries to get an IP address and then just gives up. any advice would be gratefully recieved.

Try the simplest things first. Switch everything off at the mains, and switch your laptop off. Wait a good minute.

Turn back on in this EXACT order:

1. Modem. Wait at least 30 seconds.
2. Router, if separate - wait another 30 seconds or so
3. Laptop.

Hopefully that will solve it.

remove the connection settings for the router and just set it up again from scratch

if neither of the above work, get your IT bod to check you have the latest wi-fi device drivers

It may be that you need to use a proxy at work. I usually install Proxy Switcher Lite: http://www.proxyswitcher.com/ . At home you probably don't need a proxy.

Speak to the IT guy and see what your firm's policy is about connecting their laptop to your home network.

It's probably just the ssid ... but check
