What do I need to check on my PC and what do I need to do to find out if my PC is compatible with broadband. In other words, what equipment do I need to link up a wireless router/modem to my pc so that broadband internet will work on my pc?

No straightforward answer but...

If you're using an external modem/router, on your PC you need either a wired network connection, a built-in wireless network facility or the expansion capability to add a plug-in wired or wireless network card.

Or with a different approach the facility to connect a broadband mode directly, most likely via a USB connection.

Sorry, I see you did specify wireless. So you need either built-in wireless networking, or a means to plug in a wireless networking card.

Look in the manual/specifications.
