Why do I always wake up 1 minute before my alarm goes off, its the most annoying thing....

Is it my body clock telling me to do this, if so why dont i wake up like this on weekends?

because your body clock is used to weekends
being able to wake on cue is a real gift; if only you could bottle it and sell it. As 4get says, it's even calibrated not to wake you at weekends.

Does it work if you don't set your alarm, or is it setting the alarm that triggers you?

not sure, i think even if i didnt set my alarm id still wake up as id be on edge through the night.
Hmmm, hello again hygenic homer :)
Not seen you for ages.
Maybe its the smell from that damp mattress you used to sleep on .
But i think its to do with your body clock. It happens to me, but i wake up 2 mins before...
If I have to get up at a certain time I repeat the time eg 6.30am in my head a few times before I go to sleep and it always works. Also if I'm going on holiday and have to be at the airport early I always dream that I have missed the plane and wake up in a panic.

hey there Mr Ben, it cant be the mattress i threw that bad boy out a long time ago....and even got a shower as well.

thanks for your replies guys.
As I don't work I can get up when I wake naturally most mornings , but if I do need to make sure I am up and set the alarm I too always wake up before it goes off , very strange :-!
hi homer, you know I do the exact same thing!, I always wake up 2 mins before the alarm, even at weekends. I have thought about not bothering with an alarm but I dont trust myself incase I do sleep through
I can always really struggle to get up in the mornings, the snooze on my alarm is my best friend!
Come the weekend, i always wake up stupidly early and im wide awake & struggle to get back to sleep, reallllly winds me up!
it's s0ds law Homer55. And more likely to happen when it's cold and wintery out too!

Your body clock is waking you up so you can hear the alarm go off.
same happens to me sometimes.. say for example i want my alarm for 8 i put it for five to (or 8am), then i wake up 5/10 minutes beforehand... it must be your brain acknowledging that u have to be up a certain time, then it becomes alert before the alarm goes off.. you CAN train yourself to wake up without alarms, by telling yourself to wake up a certain time... my mum read on it and she's tried it but it didnt really work.. she slept in!! ha
