Please help!
Could any medical students or people who have studied medicine please give me some opinions on the best universities to attend when studying medicine, and also whether PBL really works.
Thanks

I work in a hospital, although I'm not a doctor. Most of my friends have gone to Leicester to study medicine, and have really enjoyed it there (doesn't have the snobbery attached to some medical schools). However, it's horses for courses, and you're better off having a look round to see what would actually suit you as a person, go and visit them (most will hold open days).
Personally,I believe PBL can work, but to start off with, most people have trouble discriminating the information required to solve the problems. You have to have a reasonable level of background knowledge in order to solve the problems, and a logical brain.
I also have a relative who is studying medicine at Leicester. He has been extremely happy with his tuition and the training he has been receiving.
hi,

I studied medicine at Leicester and found it great - the lecturer's actually turn up and are enthusiastic. Recommended. But as far as PBL, I wouldn't recommend this format of learning, at least in my sister's experience. She went to Liverpool and was completely lost.

As far as other unis to apply to: I would recommend Newcastle, Edinburgh and Kings. Its probably too late - I guess you've submitted the UCAS form already?

Anyway, enjoy wherever you go, but remember medicine isn't everything in life.

Newcastle is great. Its a good mix between PBL and spoon feeding! Oh and the nightlife is fab!
