Brian Poole & The Tremeloes #1 in 1963 Dave Clark Five #30 in 1963
The Contours.
Well The Contours made there version in 1962 and was a slow and soulie and the Brian Pool and the Tremeloes was a kind of rock version in 1963.

The Contours version was on Motown. As with many Soul and Rock'n'roll tracks of the era, British groups recorded them and had the UK hit (in this case Brian Poole and the Tremeloes). The cheeky thing was that the British Invasion of the American chart around 1964 was made up of groups who had taken Black American acts songs and sold them back to the Americans.
