I have a fairy new washing machine,(just over a year old) good make, all singing all dancing with dryer etc, the problem is, on the odd wash the clothes smell damp (like they have been left in a confined place for several days) Does enyone else have this problem ? i know i have put powder in etc i have cleaned the drawer and i leave the door open when not in use. the only thing i can think of is the fabric conditioner (comfort) which i have been using for a few weeks.

Any suggestions?

How do i spring clean my washer?

Thanks Louise

Hi Louise, I have had this problem on a few occasions - the only solution that worked for me was to not over fill the machine, hope this might work.
when mine gets like this i put the towels on a good hot wash and pour in 2 watering cans of hot water in the powder drawer as i dont think they take enough water to clean at the top of the drum,my old machine used to fill up to wash with water to half way up the glass door and i never had that smelling

Thanks for your suggestions. I know washers now don't seem to use as much water and maybe don't clean the insides as well, i did manage to find another way, Using bicarb soda and white vinegar in an empty hot wash. and it did the trick. No nasty chemicals either.
Have a look at the help and advice section on www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk The chap that runs the site recommends running the machine empty on it's hottest wash with a scoop of powder designed for whites, colour powder has no bleach so doesn't kill the bugs that cause the wiff. It's an excellent site well worth a look and no, I'm not related!
