Hi all , I received an email earlier today with a link to a petition asking for help with an issue going on in Dublin at present. Apparently Dublin are calling a ban on all sorts of dog breeds, Dogs can be re-homed in a fixes time scale or they will be removed and ....? I am hoping this is not a scam but if it is real it is unbelievable, so please put your name to the petition. The site concerned is www.doggysnaps.co. Thanks for taking time x.

Hi flump
Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
I have already signed the petition. Thank goodness I don't stay in Dublin.
Some of the 11 breeds being banned are GSD's, Staffies and Rotties, the majority of whom are normal family pets.

The dogs that cannot be rehomed (outside Dublin of course) within a very short timescale WILL be removed from their owners and put to sleep (murdered!).

The rescues are already being overwhelmed with these breeds.

This is a direct link to the petition:

Anything like this - where they generalise dog character by breed is lunacy.

There are good dogs and bad dogs, and then the owner's character impacts on the dog's behaviour.

A big Rottie can be a big softies with a responsible owner and a Lab can be savage in the wrong hands.

And sometimes when a dog bites he is responding to something somebody has done to them - it is not always the dogs fault.

What about dangerous cats - I have two of them!

Bah!
Ive signed the petition but poor dogs again another witch hunt. Its disgusting when will it ever end!
Signed.

Thank you for bringing it to our attention flump :-)
It's not the dog's who are the problems, it's the owners. Any breed of dog can be trained to attack and even kill. All it takes is some harsh and abusive treatment by owners to do the job. I don't know if you hear any news about the US, but recently an Atlanta Falcons football player was arrested for running a dog fighting ring. The video I saw was gruesome: A female dog that appeared to have recently had puppies was being killed by another (possibly male) dog. Horrible, graphic detail of the kill and other kills on that video. I also found out that these despicable human beings will often drown, hang or torture dogs to death by electricution. These people don't care that the animal trusts them and DOES feel pain, fear and agony when so brutally killed. They are heartless chuman beings who simply enjoy blood, gore and killing another living creature. Thank the good Lord that this crime is now a federal offense. They need more people like the one who took the video to turn these brutes in to the authorities for punishment. Again, it's not the dogs, it's the owners. Put the abusive owners down or make them move away from their dogs.
It's deed not breed all over again. An absolute kneejerk reaction to a problem that is l about the way people treat animals who trust them. I signed the petition, hope it will make them think. You just can't classify all of a particular breed by the way a few have been brought up by people who shouldn't be allowed a dog.

I think my Collie is far more dangerous than most Staffies, Rotties and GSDs I have met-for example, I can't let him near small kids, but I am aware of that, and so so very careful.

This is awfull I've copied and pasted this to the dog forum I belong to that should get a few hundred more signitures
It appears that the huge amount of support for the owners of these dogs has resulted in a back down by the council. They are entering into negotiations now, which they would not do before, and are considering allowing some pets to be kept.

There are legal challenges to the ban, and several organisations are giving their support and funding a case
in the courts saying that the ban is illegal.

Hi lankeela, I suppose it is moving in the right direction then an least if negotiations are under way. However it still makes me very glad that I do not live there and I have not got any of the breeds mentioned. I hope it is sorted in the dogs ' favour.
