I keep getting bad calls and text on my mobil phone and it's really doing my head in. if I reported it to the police can they trace where the calls and text was sent from like an address or a town? The number comes up with the text but when i phone it no one answers the phone. But the number is withheld when they are calling me. I think it's my x but i have no proof so I don't want to report him as it might not be him. I have had this number for years and don't want to change it.

you should report it,but if its a sim card, that has not been registered, then there is not a lot that can be done about it,i would just text back and say you have reported it to the police and if they continue to text and phone they can find out where it is coming from
It may also be worth speaking to your network provider as I think they may be able to bar certain numbers from your phone??
If these call are abusive or breaking the law in anyway the police can track the service provider through the number, the service provider can then put a block on outgoing calls from that number!!
The police will be able to investigate this they will need to know how many texts and calls you had and what the say etc, if you delete them record what the say on a piece of paper with the time and date recieved and what number it is from. Then the police can take a report of nuisance calls/messages or even harassment it the deem it to be that serious. Your service provider should be able to block the number but this obviously doesn't stop that person doing it from another phone.
i know you don't want to change you phone number but the police will advise you to do it as it will solve the problem straight away.
hope this helps.
if the phone is a contract phone then yes they can trace it, if pay as you go not registered then no. i would report this for evidence as you may need it in the future.
i am guessing you will be told to change your number and be careful who you give it to.
i agree that you are doing nothing wrong so why should you change it but its the only way to stop it.
good luck
