(Sorry, posted in home and garden. Probably better off here?)

Just having one installed. It's the type with a half bowl and removable strainer which is next to the main sink.
We are having a waste disposal unit fitted, the problem is should the waste disposal be fitted to the main sink or to the half bowl?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

I have always seen them fitted to the half bowl. that way I guess if you are washing up in the main bowl you don't have a problem!
Is the waste disposal a batch feeder, or the other sort? If a batch feeder I would scrape all the waste into the main sink and get rid of it in a couple of goes. I have to point out that I don't wash dishes in the sink, so no conflict of interest - due to dishwasher.
