Anyone got any hints on how to clean (quite dirty) windows? I know that 'How clean is your house' recommends newspaper and maybe vinegar? Is it vinegar in plain or soapy water, is the window cleaned with a sponge or cloth, is it dried with newspaper or is the paper only used to buff it after being dried some other way?
Does the same method work for internal and external windows?
Thanks

Wash with soapy water, then wipe over with newspaper for smear free clean, Both inside and out. Don't use a really cheap paper though as the print comes off all over your hands.I have been doing it that way for years.
I use a plain j cloth and use the paper until it is too wet to continue.
i use hot water, vinegar, fairy liquid. sponge lather up lots of suds..then use a hand held wiper to wipe away suds. as you have used hot water the window should dry pretty quickly. wipe away any remaning wet parts with scrunched up newspaper. bingo!!
i've tried alsorts of things over the years. our window cleaner stopped coming about 12 months ago so we've just had a go at cleaning them ourselves, and have to say a bucket of warm water with a little fairy liquid in, and a cloth to wash them first, and then dry with a chamois leather, is the best and easiest method yet. i don't know why it's taken me so long to find out! we've done the inside and outside by the same method. forget any spray on stuff, or even those windscreen-wiper blade things.
Lukewarm water with a good slug of vinegar ..doesn't matter which sort ..white or malt it's all the same .
Get yourself a couple of good quality microfibre cloths .
Wash on with one cloth .. buff up with the other .Job done .
Clean them on a dull day ....not in bright sunshine .Cleaning windows in direct sunlight will dry it off before you have them shined up and will leave streaks .
Do one side vertically and the other side horizontally ...then you can see if you have missed a bit !
Otherwise get a window cleaner and kowtow to him !
We have some windows that are impossible to clean ourselves and would be lost without him .
I've tried all sorts of things over the years but have recently been introduced to the best method ever and it uses no nasty chemicals! Wipe over with J-cloth and warm water then wipe over with an E-Cloth. The latter are just magic (tho not cheap to buy but they last for ages) and there are no smears - ever!!!!!
I still use good old Windolene & my windows always look clear & sparkly!!
my mother in law swears by the white vinegar - but then she uses that for cleaning just about anything! :-)
i always spray my windowes with white vinegar wipe over with newspaper then spray with windolene and wipe off with a paper towel, windows come up gleaming
