Why does our heart beats at different rates after different exercises?

In order for muscles to operate under strenuous conditions they need lots of fresh blood. The brain therefore makes the heart beat faster to increase the flow.
The heart rate is directly affected by the level of exercise.

The heart rate is part reactive (to demand for oxygen) and part pre-emptive (brain telling it to speed up in preparation for some event).
