I'm having a quiet one in tonight with my boyfriend and another couple. Does anyone have any DVD/Video's that they think would suit all of us and that we would all enjoy? My boyfriend likes gangster/beat-them-up type movies, the couple like sci-fi (I hate it!) and I like comedy/romances. Bit stuck really!

Shaun of the dead fills most of these criteria
Star Trek IV is obviously sci-fi. It's also 'fish out of water' comedy with the Enterprise crew in 80s San Francisco. Kirk, unsurprisingly, has a romance. It's my favourite Trek film.

Shaun of the dead has been watched by the other couple just the other week...
Bit old now but have you seen the Bourne Identity? Bit of a romance, lots of action and plenty of gadgets and gizmos (no sci-fi though) Or what about Starsky and Hutch, that's pretty good.
You probably won't be able to rent it, but "Firefly" (the TV show) is excellent and very few people who give it a try don't like it. If you fancy going to the pictures or know someone with the R1 DVD, "Hellboy" meets all of your criteria.
Big Trouble in Little China...?
believe it or not, no matter what tyoe of films people like, you can't go wrong with finding nemo!
Baby Juice Express.
Then let me suggest the film Timeline about a group of archaeologists working in the Dordogne area of France have uncovered the remains of a 14th Century castle. Little do they realise that soon they will be caught up in the adventure of a lifetime. A technology company have secretly designed a time travel device which has opened a portal into the 14th Century. This film has the advantage of being SciFi with beatem up sections. In addition it's so poorly made and acted and the plotline so preposterous that it is also funny. Thought I must add it's about as funny as finding blood on your toilet paper.
Finding Nemo is a great shout! Or, in that ilk, Monsters Inc??
Calcium kid with Orlando Bloom and Skarky & Hutch.
What did you get in the end, and did it go down well?
How about Predator...uve got space creatures, Arnie with a gun and some great macho men hamming it up....Worth another view.... "If it bleeds we can kill it". Yoh Arnie !

Even though I discounted it, the friends bought around Shaun of the Dead and watched it again because they loved it. I wasn't a fan at all. Rubbish!! Didn't enjoy it in the slightest. Some funny parts but the zombies made the whole thing pooh! I liked 28 days later though... odd.
