Yes, you can get dwarf fruit trees designed for patio containers. See this link for some ideas

Yes! We have an apple tree which is Cox's Orange Pippin grafted onto dwarf rootstock, and I think we got it from Wyevale - it's from a company called Coronet anyway: http://www.coronet.ie/ It's been wonderful, but don't expect hundreds of apples! We restricted growth the first year, and got about 18 apples last year. This year is looking good too, and the tree is only about 3ft high :o)
How about blueberries? We have two bushes that are doing really well. They have to be planted in ericaceous compost, but that is easy to get hold of at garden centres.
We have tried a dwarf peach, but it has to be overwintered indoors and this year I think I put it back out too soon, so I shall have to be more careful next year.
Earlier this year we bought a patio pear which is doing well in a pot. Too early for fruit yet as it is too young, but it looks healthy enough and is easy to look after.
Don't forget strawberries in a pot or hanging basket.
Good luck!

Thank you all, your answers have been really useful and I am now looking forward to starting a garden (after 15yrs of a wasted concrete space!) even if all the plants are in pots.
I'm like you, I have a terrace so everything in pots including a normal size apple tree ( a Braeburn) I thought in for a pe nny in for a pound. Ive got 4 apples on it this year I also planted a crabapple tree which is covered in crabapples, and a fig tree which has given me some fruit this year...So give it a go...
