All these "young pretenders" such as Kasabian, Razorlight, Kaiser Chiefs, The Killers, The Feeling, The Kooks, The Artic Monkeys to name but a few, could do a lot worse than looking at the established Duran Duran as role models. Especially on hints as to how to hold oneself on stage, including movement and mere presence.

Yes, the modern music is different, but ultimately it is still guitar, bass, drum, and a lead vocal backed up occassionally by a rhythm guitar and keyboards.

Also, they could take heed that Duran Duran have instantly recognisable tunes, not the jungle bungle crap a lot these newbies play. Lord knows, todays hit parade sounds like a bloody gunfight in a two bit mechanics workshop.

I agree in a way. I loved seeing the Reflex live but you cannot fault Tom Meighan! Whats her face was right, he could be in front of 90,000 people who had never heard a single Kasabian song and they would be dancing around to it.

Unlike the fact that seems to be noone dancing at the moment to Simons efforts. Kasabian , The Feeling and The Killers, from your list all know how to play a huge crowd.

I've always found Simon Le Bon's voice irritating and whiny, and Duran Duran's music a bit ordinary. No amount of standing in the right place on stage will change that.

As someone who always likes to give new music a chance, I firmly believe there are plenty of good artists and bands out there today, many of whom get nowhere near the charts. The worst thing to do is to think that the Radio 1 playlist is representative of everything that's out there.

Well Duran Duran got their influence from somewhere (a lot of Bowie methinks) likewise the Beatles were influenced by Chuck Berry I think. And Buddy Holly.,
Nobody gets where they are without influences and I am sure the bands you mentioned would never deny this. The Killers are wholehearted Smiths supporters and do not deny their influence.
However you cannot discount any 'influenced' bands for having a whole great deal of originality as well. There are bands around today that we were crying out for 115 years ago when there was nothing but dance music to listen to The Arctic Monkey s spring to mind as a band I can find no similarities to but who are brilliant and talented.

Indeed, it is fair to say Mr Bowie kick started the whole New Romantic movement.

...I have to admit I was a Duranie back in the days, and would hear no wrong uttered against them.... however I was only 13 at the time and it was acceptable in the 80s)..... I have to agree with GetOverIt ...I turned off when they came on, it was all rather cringeworthy....I don't think you can compare Kasabian with Duran Duran...

I would rather listen to Duran Duran than the producer controlled music of todays so called pop stars..Thankfully bands like Kasabian etc are still trying to do their own thing even if its derivitive of past bands..I dont get them but at least I know they CAN play and write their own stuff. As for hip hop and r and b music etc..Thats garbage!
