so i was wondering since i have never opened it up and i am planning on upgrading the memory soon, i also wanted to put in a second hard drive. so my question is, is there a second hard drive slot and if not could i take the cd/dvd drive out and put a hard drive in that slot and then get an external dvd burner instead?

Upgrading the memory on your eMac is easy.
I've done it myself and it took me 5 minutes.
Here's a video on how to do it:

The eMac doesn't have room inside to accommodate a second hard drive and it's not recommended.
You also have to strip your eMac down to the logic board to get access to the internal hard drive.
Why not just buy an external hard drive with firewire connection.

This is what's involved in stripping down your eMac:

I would just add more memory and buy an external HD.
