I have a neighbour who has a Walnut tree sapling in a pot, its about two and a half feet tall, however, it only has leaves at the top, he asked me if that was normal, and if its not, is there a way he could get leaves to grow further down the trunk.

Not being a tree expert, i'm not sure, I would think thats about right, but anyone elses opinion would be valued.

Thanks.

I have planted many thousands of trees including walnut, they are very often like that!! just get it into the ground or the biggest pot possible, so it can develop as normally as possible

Thanks Ratter
Good of you to answer so quickly, i'll pass that on.

Got another question coming up, again from the neighbours, this time with a picture, just got to download it.
Yep sounds about normal to me too. He could try it in a slightly sunnier spot if it looks a bit drawn up and spindly but it always surprises me how lower the branches and leaves look when it's planted in the open ground and the depth of the pot is taken out of the equasion.
