Hi, just a quick question for you guys- my little one is teething and has nappy rash on and off, I keep him as dry as possible and give his bum some 'air time' every day but I have just noticed yesterday that his little willy looked sore and today it looked worse. I read that nappy rash can spread onto the willy area but it looks cracked and sore...just been putting sudocream on for now and will prob take him to the Dr next wk-rang health visitor but she never rang back- so just wondered if anyone else had experienced this and am I panicking, lol!
Many thanks in advance

My son used to get this as well, Sudocrem used to clear it up in a day or two.
Now I have a little girl and I had a free sample of Bepanthen cream, worked super quick, so thats worth a go.
Its natural to panic, but you are doing the right things :-)
Ooh, also check creases in legs, my little girl has a rather fat bottom area and this is a nightmare for nappy rash!
Don't panic, wigglebum junior has suffered with bad nappy rash since day one and I'm afraid its a case of some kids get it and some don't. If you take you're little one to the docs he'll just suggest exactly what you're doing so don't worry. I have tried every remedy going and I find most vaseline based products seem to work the best.

Hope that helps xx
I have 3 kids so I can safely answer on this! My first born really suffered with it till he was out of nappies. My second child suffered till he was about 4 months old when a friend told me a great bit of advise!

Dont use creams. All the cream does is block the "pores" of the nappy which soak up the urine, so leaving a lot of urine ontop of the cream and next to babys bum. This inturn causes more nappy rash as the urine is next to the skin for a longer period until the nappy absorbs the urine.

I stopped using the creams straight away and my middle child never suffered from nappy rash again.

I never used creams on my third unless he had a really bad outbreak of nappy rash, I think I used the creams twice.

I was told this was a ploy by the nappy and cream makers, you use more cream and change them more often to clear up the rash. I will let you make up your own minds!
Hello! I have two little boys - not so little really - and I used creams to start with. My eldest once had a really bad case of nappy rash which I couldn't get rid of, and the Health Visitor prescribed Metanium, I think it was called, which I used for 3 or 4 days. It was fantastic, I have to say, but I didn't use it again. I kept it though, just in case, and stopped using everything else too. He never had another problem.

When my second came along, I never used creams at all, and he never had a problem. I like to think he might have done, and that I prevented it, but I'll never know now!!

In the nicer weather, bare bums are best whenever possible. Messy, but definitely the best for a peachy bum!

Bum off where possible and metanium good but i prefered welleda calenjula baby nappy change cream (health food shop locally). It was wonderful but I also used terries so cant say about the blocking nappy pores thing.
It's most likely a yeast infection, very common in babies in diapers. Their poor little bottoms sit in that dark moist environment all day and all night, it's perfect for yeast to develop.

Call the health visitor again and get a prescription for an anti-fungal ointment. I use Nystatin on my little one's bum when she gets yeasty.
when my son was younger sudocream was my first choice untill i was told to use egg whites instead !!! Put the egg white into a bowl slightly break it down with a fork then apply to the nappy rash. ( store in fridge till next needed,)This gives a good coating which dries and applies a shield . It was the best solution to nappy rash i found and beat bought products hand down...

Hi everyone and thanks so much for your advice, p.c has been down so only just read them all. It did clear up with the sudocream and fresh air but keeps threatening to come back, lol.Just had never realised they could get it on their little willy and it looked soooo painful!
Thanks so much for putting my mind at rest, I don't want to seem like a panicky Mum but being the first time I'm really not sure about so many things...I like to know what I'm doing normally, lol!
Have a great summer and I expect I will be posting again about something else soon!

Just a really good tip here to stop it coming back in the future, the best thing i ever did was to stop using wipes of any sort. instead use baby lotion and cotton wool, believe me it works! its also cheaper.
