Can anyone think of a dictionary Headword that could be defined (perhaps fairly loosely) by 'REAR' and 'BIRD' ?
In fact this Headword has four other discreet definitions and also appears again in the dictionary with a different meaning.

Rhea? Squab?
The other pairs I saw were car/lip or card/clip...game/film...ear/rib (reading counter-clockwise) and - internally - repel/block.
I spent a little time trying to 'get' the appropriate dictionary word to include any three of these pairings but failed. My problem with The Listener is that, after I've solved the clues, I rapidly lose interest in the further shenanigans demanded!
I hope you have more luck...or tenacity!

Thanks for your thoughts - in the end I had to admit defeat on this one. I had no idea that the definitions concerned would comprise entire entries - I felt the preamble should have been clearer on this in the interests of complete fairness.
