These type of locks by putting a metal bar across the sliding door release mechanism. If you force the handle down it will probably break the connection between the handle and the sliding door release mechanism. The lock is still likely to be able to be operated to remove the bar from across the sliding locking mechanism but the handle will no longer move the release mechanism.
In short, you won't be able to open the door. But they are strong, and huge force would be necessary to do this.
Forcing the handle will not open the door. As BM says the follower will just break. The actual security depends on the cylinder, strip and installation.
