Just need comfort from other ABers who have purchased flights for this summer and recevied a confirmation telling them that 'no tickets will be sent'- just take the email confirmation with you to the airport.
Does this work???

Have done this with KLM and BA and it works fine. Bit worried first time but it's simple. You may have to use a machine close to the check-in desks, pop your photo page of your passport in the machine, enter flight number and it produces your boarding pass. You then take this to the desk and drop off your luggage - simple. If there isn't a machine for your particular airline, you still just go to the desk and they have all your info ready to check in.
It's the way the Ryanair has operated for years and it's worked fine for millions of passengers. I'm actually surprised that any airlines which offer online booking still use conventional tickets. Those that do are almost certainly in a minority.

it works fine. In effect the emails are tickets - it's just that you bear the cost of printing them rather than the cheapskate airlines. With BA when you book online you may also get the chance to choose your seat online and check in 24 hours before (so no arriving at the airport 3 hours before takeoff). I don't know if Thomson offer this, though.
I use it on most of the flights I use, (Iberia, Easyjet) but I book on line and yes it's fine. You need photographic identification.
I've used the printed page you get giving the flight number and your details to fly to the States on American Airlines, Continental and BA. I've also travelled round Europe (to Prague, Athens, Dusseldorf and Barcelona) using just the e-mail confirmation. No problem. In fact I've also printed out my own boarding pass a couple of times and taken that, again, no problem.
