I know my question is not in the slightest associated with the media but I figured most people look at these topics and I wanted to know what the majority thought of:

ANSWERS ON THE ANSWER BANK!

I have asked a few questions in my time, some where I actually needed to know an answer and others just to see what people's thoughts were on things.

I wanted to know what fellow "answerbanktarians" think about answers to questions where author is put in their place "polically correct" style.

Like "well you have contradicted youself there" or "this question has been asked before", "perhaps you should consider drinking less over christmas" (one I was told today!)

And i'm sure now i'll get the classic "why have you posted in this topic? It's not relevant"

Why do people need to point these things out? Why do I need people to tell me "this has been posted befre" Are they moderators of theanswerbank? Why waste your time telling me i've wasted mine?

Thoughts? I'm bracing myslef! :)

Also i'd like to know where YOU would have posted this. Don't politically correct my ass by saying you wouldn't have posted it!

OK , well leightOn, i have posted a 'similar' question to this and i too was unsure WHERE to post it so i put it under Christmas?? no real reason, just didnt wanna get a bo*****ing for putting it in the wrong place!
Its still there if you want to read it, and i was suprised to find i only got one reply?? Some of my questions get interesting/funny/helpful answers, (i think its worse if you dont get a reply at all!!) its almost personal .......... like its such a s**t comment nobody can even be ar*** to answer.
I think al lot of people have been 'doing' the AB sooo long now that they feel kinda protective towards it, and i have (sometimes) found that a lot of people know each other very very well, and sometimes i have read conversations that i wouldnt DREAM of joining in with, for the fear of being treated like the poor realative at a wedding! I have often wondered why some use AB instead of just getting together on MSN, it CAN be very 'clicky' especially if you are new, but then i have changed my 'name' a few times and been amazed at how differently i have been answered, people i have been joking with for months havent realised i am the same person?? Bizzarre?
You see, because of the fact that you really dont know who you are talking to young/old/fat/thin/black/white there is ALWAYS the risk that you are gonna upset someone, so if i were you i would just keep at it, probably some people on here are very lonely, and maybe dont get another chance to let off steam? dont take it too personally, after all, nobody knows you so feel free to air your views, every body else does, and.............. if you get chastised, just consider yourself told Young Man!! er.... or Young Woman lol
I think if you really wanted a good response to your question, you should have posted it in quizzes and puzzles.
Why do people point it out when questions have been asked previously? Well, first of all there are only so many questions on the 'front page', the place that gets most people's attention, so to keep having repeat questions is a waste. Also, it smacks of laziness. When I've posted a question, it always asks me to check down a list to see if the question has already been asked and then, at the end, whether I still wish to submit. If you're doing a Sunday Xword on a Wednesday, you can be pretty sure your questions have already been asked and yet you find the same ones cropping up again and again.

Overall, I think it's a very good site and the helpfulness of people far outweighs the negative aspects.

Thanks curlyperm & FoxLee

I agree with you both. Yeah it's lazy if you post a question without seeing if anyone else has asked if before but becasue it is so "clicky" on here and people are protective over it you get the sh*ts who give you grief when you repeat a question.

No doubt some people would like to withdraw a question they have asked if they realise it has been asked before, in case they get the cr*p, but they can't. perhaps that should be something that AB should sort out for the future?
well, i have asked to move a question off before now and 'they' aggreed, but only cos it was on a personal level and the matter had been resolved, but the thing is not EVERYBODY has time to trawl through every single category to double check, myself personally i only really frequent 4 or 5 'topics' on a regular basis, Media (TV) family?life/parenting, News and Body and soul, oh and motoring (cos i was caught speeding : (
some people obviously have all day to p$$$ about on here, but some of us have lives? lol
Oooops!!
curlyperm - I thnk you're taking things to a nonsensical extreme. If you're posting a question in motoring or body and soul, etc., it's going to be a more personal question, that others haven't already asked. I was referring to quizzes and puzzles where the same few newspapers and magazines feature regularly. For instance, if I'm doing a puzzle in the Express, I put Sunday Express as the heading, post my question, and then a few question that have already been asked relating to the SE will appear. It takes seconds to look through them to see if my question is there. It's not really difficult or time consuming.
considered told! : )
calm down, it's only a website.
It annoys the hell out of me when people correct you especially your speling.
Last time I checked this wasn't an on-line dictionary!
The number of times the question - "What's the song with the line 'What's that coming over the hill, is it a monster?''" drove me insane. Surely AB suggested some similar alternatives when the authors posted the question. There was enough of 'em.

It's the repeated simple questions that annoy me, or questions that could be answered far quicker with Google. I mean, what's the point?
i agree about the 'google' thing, but i think people get lazy, and also as i said before people are lonely maybe, and just want to 'chat' to other people, hence they run-out of decent questions, however who is to define 'decent' questions eh? i mean when people say things like 'whats happenned to so and so in neighbours.....' i couldnt give a s$$$ but to that person it might mean everything? you can definately tell who are the 'intellects' on this website tho, quite amusing sometimes lol
Forgive me using a very old thread of yours, LeightOn, but can I ask you if your petition to see SportsAnswerbank put back the way it was is still there? It may be my computer somehow but I cannot find it now?
