Altough we can receive emails without any problems for some reason when we try to access a website we permanently get the error messages "Cannot display webpage". We cannot see that there is a problem with the connection as emails are being sent and received without any problem. Do you have any idea why we cannot get a webpage to display. Thank you.

Internet Explorer may be set to work in offline mode.

Go to File > then check that it says Work Offline. If you are trying the same page all the time it may be that that page is not available, try google or something. You have probably tried that already but its just a pointer.

You could also delete the temporary internet files folder, if you have a corrupt file there it can make things go wrong.

open IE and go to Tools> Internet Options then in the Temporary Internet Files box, select Delete Files then delete all offline content

Its maybe a good idea to delete the cookies too, however you will loose your login username and password data for all websites you login too.

hope that helps

Thanks for that. Tried all your suggestions but they do not work. Any other suggestions please?
Possibly you have somehow ended up with a proxy entry
I'm assuming that you aren't using some sort of corporate connection ... just the usual dial or dsl

in internet explorer
tools | connections |
if you have a router | lan settings
if modem ... select the connection | settings

take the tick out of "use proxy" box

if still no use - open a command prompt
(start | run | cmd <ok>
at the prompt type
ping www.demon.net
if no reply type
ping 194.159.246.194
(careful with the spaces!)

Thanks for all your help. I have now found of what the problem was.

Baiscally for some reason by Norton Anti-Virus firewall changed it settings to block Internet Explorer. Once I changed this everything was fine.

Thanks for your efforts.
lol

that was going to be my next suggestion

(as if!!!)
