Are you stupid?!

Why do you feel the need to buy sudocrem and baby wipes on ebay?! Eh? You can get them in supermarkets where you don't need to pay postage! I worry about peoples mentality these days! It's SO much simpler getting a few packs in then buying them as and when.

Words fail me.

chimpanzee you do nothing but insult people on these pregnancy posts... I get the feeling you search posts for arguments....maybe you should consider whether your "advice" is necessary.
chimpanzee doesnt know what stupid is, which accounts for her own posts.

Nat is only using the links to ebay as a means to show what shes talking about, we can all see that

Nat, bought anything else? Was gonna suggest you get a cheap cold water steriliser which is less time consuming that an electric one as things just need popping in and the water is changed daily. Once an electric one is opened then everything becomes un-sterile after a short space of time and has to be sterilised again.

Hi redcrx - i assumed chimpanzee was a man due to the stupid posts ive seen.

Well we went to Makros and bought a box of (80) Pampers New Baby Nappies - from 11lbs - so we need to buy some Nappies from 4lbs.

We also bought x2 boxes of unscented Johnsons Wipes - 384 in each box (listed in my original post - but cheaper than listed on Ebay!!)

We bought all baby bathing and toiletry products - shampoo etc.

We bought a small tub of Sudocrem - nothing like the huge ones i originally mentioned! lol.

and finally some disposable changing mats - which boyfriend thought we had better get!

Other things i've bought on a different occassion are a teething ring, BT Baby Monitor, x12 Muslin Squares, and a changing mat.

i think we're pretty much there other than the Breast Pump and Sterliser! We'll look into the cold water one then redcrx.

Oh and my colleague also suggested we buy one of these http://www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/detail.php?prod uctid=ST09105&branch=IF&category=CWM71.
you wont need that for quite a while and even then may not need something so fancy.

earliest you'll start to wean is 4 months, they recommend 6 months but depends on child. Then you start by giving very bland foods and introducing one at a time. mashed banana or baby rice / cereal or vegatables. One at a time so any reactions or allergies can be spotted. Then gradually baby will eat a more varied diet and you can give mixed purees or jars of food.

I dont think youll need one of those yet.

btw be very careful of nappies In Makro as sometimes they are not cheaper than boots or supermarket. And dont buy too many just yet in case that brand leak.

disposable changing mats good in emergency but a decent changing bag should have one with it anyway. I recently bought this bag from TK Maxx at about 15 and its great http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/SAMSONITE-SAMMIES-LADYBI RD-BACKPACK-CHANGING-BAG-NWT_W0QQitemZ17010845 1940QQihZ007QQcategoryZ15558QQssPageNameZWDVWQ QrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem it has a cool bag for bottles a dummy holder, lots of pockets and clips to the pushchair as well as being a rucksack. it also has lots of sealable pockets and bag for wet clothes etc
Question Author
I think your right red - as i think we could've got nappies cheaper. I agree about the food processor - its avaiable on Ebay for about 45 +P&P though. But obviously not an essential at the moment.

Obviously a pram is top of our list at the moment. Boyfriends sis has a friend selling a Mamas and Papas for 200 - she bought it for 600 - its two years old. I'll email it across to you to see what u think!
email me the details to my named address not the redcrx one and i shall take a peek for you.
Don't go mad buying too many creams and wipes etc. I bought up tons of Johnson's wipes and a HUGE pot of Sudocrem only to find that neither suited my son so were a waste of money. Also, I've still got several bottles of baby lotion, oil and powder which I never used once which I wish I'd never bought.
Also, I found muslin squares great. Do shop around though because they do vary in price quite a lot.
Nat that processor looks bit fancy. I had a Braun one that is the hand held blender for early mush then the chopper attatchment for bigger lumps and a whisk attatchment (cus it came with it)!! In the argos book 29.99 but you may find a cheaper one when you see what I mean BRAUN MR4050 HC 3in1 blender (cant find a link but sure you will have argos book if not you better get one EVERY house needs an argos book) Dont forget when you get to weaning to do batches of mush and freeze it in ice cube trays so you can defrost difgferent flavours at once or mix cubes then you not mashing every day.

Good luck with the pram but make sure you try it in your car boot. Buggys are so hard to buy cis you dont really know what you need only what you like. I only wish I had an umbrella fold one as they are smaller to fold and tent to seem less bulky. You use them for longer then as you are less likley to buy a light weight buggy cus the original one is too bulky for quick trips out.
Oh it is all exciting it takes me back.
Have you bought a baby bath yet. I bought one and never used it but used the big bath it was just as easy. One of those mesh cradle things was brilliant as little one could splash for ages without getting arm or back ache cant find a link for those either but will keep looking.
Question Author
Thanks Winny! OF COURSE we have an Argos book - i'll look it up when i get home!

We're defo buying that pram my boyfriends sis' friend offered to us for 200.... seems decent, looks nice and is mamas and papas so should be good quality. Showed redrcx it and she gave her approval.

i really like the idea of that 'Bathe Eze' - i also dont really see the point in buying a baby bath. I bought that book that pixie recommended The Rough Guide to Babies and it mentions under a list of things you'll probably never need is a BABY BATH.

Got an NCT sale near me this Saturday so we're going to that to see if we can hunt down any bargains!
Shall I tell you the only time a baby bath is invaluable?
If your toddler ever gets chicken pox you can sit them in a baby bath of warm / tepid water containing bicarbonate of soda with a bath sponge and plonk it down in front of the tele with a favourite programme or DVD on.
Let them squeeze the solution all over themselves. Best remedy ever. VERY soothing.
Stick that little gem away in the back of your mind "just in case"
How did the NCT sale go? They are brilliant
Question Author
Thanks mammar! I'll bear that in mind.

Went to the NCT sale but didnt buy anything - mainly clothes were laid out and a few toys and to be honest we have LOADS of clothes now! And we got her a teddy made in The Bear Factory and a few other toys have been given to us from friends etc.

I think we need to calm down on the buying of clothes - it's highly addictive and i doubt whether she'll actually get to wear some items.

We went to Adams and bought a few outfits recently, this was my fave one...!

Need to concentrate on looking for a flat now!!! PRIORITIES!

Question Author
oh and we bought her a couple of pairs of shoes! So bloody cute (couldnt resist!)

I must be the only person that ever used the baby bath then!

I used mine every day, however, I used it in the kitchen on the worktop next to the sink for ease of filling and no bending down - I had a c-section though and had sacroilliac hip disfunction (dodgy hips) so i found it far easier to stand at the worktop and bath the baby than kneel on the floor bending over the bath - and it just took too long to put it on the changing table upstairs and go back and forward to the bathroom with a jug to fill it. I wasn't allowed to carry anything heavy - despite this, they hand you a 9lb 13oz baby and send you on your way! lol.

I did the same with my second at first, because I had another c-section - although by that point my 13 month old was too big to fit in the baby bath, so he had to wait on dad to come home and go in the big bath, or come in the shower with mum.
Question Author
I think i'll probably get one either way to be honest - "just in case" (story of my pregnant life so far-lol!).

I have dodgy knees so find kneeling down a big effort so perhaps standing to bathe baby will be a lot easier!
9lb 13oz baby!! Bloody 'ell... i'm hoping for a 6/7lb-er!lol.
so was I , the midwife said "oh i think this will be a big baby" How big - I said shocked - she said "oh about 8lbs" When I saw her afterwards she said I knew it would be about 10lbs, but when i looked at your face - I just couldn't tell you!

He was also lying back to back and got totally stuck because his head was at the wrong angle, so after 36 hours labour - not counting the 12 hours at home before I went to hospital - I had a c-section. 2nd was 8lb 3oz and I had an elective section for him as he was also lying back to back and as there was only 13 months between them, they were not sure that the scar would hold during labour. Midwife fudged the dates so that I went in a week early as I was terrified that I would go into labour and they would just wait and see. The surgeon confirmed during the section that the scar would never have held, so we had done the right thing.

Hope it all goes well for you - at the end of the day, I have two very healthy (and very tall) boys, it was definitely worth it.

You will find your own way of working and what is best for you when the time comes - what works for one mum and baby is not necessarily the best for someone else.
Question Author
36 hours!!! That must have seemed like a life sentence!! And thank god you went in early for the second one - could have been a very messy scene!!

Oh and i think the midwife need the right thing in knocking a few pounds off the truthful weight!

I'm just going into it with an open mind - no particular rules or regulations regarding drugs etc. If gas and air, epidural or c-section are need then i won't hesitate! Soooo hoping for a reasonably quick labour!!! But i'm under no illusion that this will be easy!
That's the thing, it might be - you just never know - my sister had her first with a 3 hour labour and 2nd with 2 hours - that was a bit of a mad dash to the hospital! I however went through shifts of different midwifes - went in on 3rd July, then they thought it was going to be a 4th July baby and we could call him Sam! finally arrived on 5th - baby was perfectly happy all the time and spent most of the the labour sleeping! He is now almost 7, still likes his sleep and is generally a content boy and able to keep himself occupied for hours - His brother on the other hand, is much more "needy", maybe its because he didn't have that long wait to come out! I had an epidural for the last 3 hours of labour while waiting to into theater, it was great - I could have kissed the doctor! Mind you, I am told that labour pain is much worse when they are lying back to back as all the pain goes up your spine.
Question Author
Gosh it sounds sounds scary! lol. Just the fact that you just don't know what's going to happen or how it's going to go - can't even swap notes with other mothers! lol!!

A lady at a party over the weekend (who is tiny - petite and gave birth with no drugs in 3 hours!) said that breathing has a lot to do with it - so maybe when i start my ante-natal classes i'll have more idea of what to expect!
