recently there has been a ticking noise coming from the engine i noticed coming down the m1. i stopped and checked the oil and there was only a drop in it howver i brought some and put it in but it is still ticking. anyone got any ideas, i was told that it still may need more oil as it was only a small bottle. do you think this would solve the problem?

Knowing the make and model of car would a be a good thing to start with - as for the oil level if it was below the minimum mark I would guess that it takes more than 1 litre of oil to fill it back up - on mine ( a corsa ) from minimum to max on the dipstick is a 3/4 litre. Let the car sit with the engine off for 10mins then check the oil level it should be betwen the min and max marks add some oil and re-dip after a few mins and keep doing this until correct level is acheived.
