i am starting university in october and i wondered what would be the cheapest way to travel by train from uni back home and visaversa. I will probably travel about once a month maybe more. Would a season ticket be cost effective or would buying tickets as i need them be more effective

thanks

it depends where your travelling to and from i imagine!
I would start by getting a young persons/student (whatever it is called these days!) railcard.
Try the website www.thetrainline.com
You can buy train tickets in advance. It's often cheaper to buy two single tickets than one return ticket.
A season ticket is not a good idea - it's priced on you travelling several times a week
so did not see the word train in your question!! Ooops!!!
I got a young persons rail card when i went to Uni (it was given to me when i opened my student account) and it is VERY useful!! For me to get to Bristol-Cardiff wuld usually cost me something like 16 and with my card it cist me 9!!!
When i opened my stuent account the different banks were offering different gifts and i was tempted by the 8- one was givibg away - but am very glad i got the card instead!! And it lasts for 6 years or something,...**** just looked and mine runs out in Sept this year!!! NOOOOO!!!
