If you mean what i'd call a 'car rally' just make sure that you use signs and object that are permanent.

It's all well and good people looking around for traffic cones or telecoms engineer huts that have long since been removed.

Also try places where parking is easy. Althought it's more fun when people have to struggle some people are uber competative and arguments can ensue and ruin the whole day.

Stagger the start times so people don't follow each other and most importantly.....make sure cold drinks and food are ready for the 1st team to get back!

Enjoy
I'm sorry to be miserable about this, but over the years I have seen several accidents and many near misses caused by people concentrating on their game instead of their driving. They drive too fast and stop in dangerous places. Add to this the possibility that some will be using mobile phones, and you might agree with me that the roads do not make very good playgrounds.
I once took part in one where the drivers were blindfolded to add to the aura of mystery.

Passengers had to direct the drivers along the road.

My surgeon assures me that although the scars are permanent and the bed wetting will pass, my injuries will not impinge on my lifestyle in the long term.
If the treasure hunt is taking place in the country then it might be safer than an urban hunt. If you use cryptic clues rather than directions, people will vary their route and there's less chance of bust-ups.
Good question. They are quite easy to find. It is quite difficult to hide or bury a car.
Keep an eye out in fields where you may see the car aerial sticking up above the soil. Hope this helps.
start some where central with good parking and good road links and it should end some where interesting and fun
cryptic clues are great IE turn right at the rocket (jet petrol atation)
also try to collect odd things on the way so that the fastest may not be the winner
and finaly give them all a sealed envelope with the address of the final destination just in case anyone gets too lost

Many thanks for your answers, whether they are serious or funny ... I will take on board everyones comments
Insist on more than one person in each car

Drive the route yourself, within the speed limit. Add time for searching/collecting etc. That way you know how long it should take. Anyone finishing inside that time has probably been speeding and this should be discouraged.

I'd also suggest that entrants should ensure that their insurance covers them; some companies may interpret this as 'motorsport'.
