I am going to Florida for my hol's and may wish to drive a hire car. Can I use my green paper driving licence or will I need to obtain a new photocard licence?

As long as it is a valid UK Full Driving Licence it will be fine, but best to take your passport with you as well to the hire office in case they need photo ID.
