Hi, I've found some F. imperialis (crown imperial) seed in some old pod's, they appear to be ripe.
So my question is, has anyone tried sowing this seed, was it successful and is it worth the bother ?
I suspect it's easier to divide clumps of bulbs in the autumn.

Now why on earth do you want to grow more of those stinky things Tbird? ;o)
they smell like fusty floor cloths!
You could stick a few in pots & see what happens - my neighbour has had them at the bottom of her garden (best place for 'em) for years but never had any grow from seed.
Just as well or she'd be giving them to me & I would have to 'accidentally mistreat' them. :o)

You what Robinia, I never even realised they were big stinkers, I've had them growing in the middle of the same shrub bed (cornus) for about 20 years, maybe thats where they belong in the middle and up wind.
They do look spectacular though and passers by stop and say my o' my what are they ?
20 years back the bulbs were a �1.00 each ! So I think ill bung a few in pots to see what happens.
If they do stink, I bet they dont stink half as bad as my dracnunculus (voodoo lilies) they smell like a rotting carcass!, totally evil but impressive at the same time, I think if your neighbour gave some of them, mistreatment would be no accident. ;�) Cheers Tbird+
