Hi I have laboured for years to get rid of moss but you can rely on it to reappear each year as strong as ever.
I have acquired a big flamegun which is great for weeds
I have read that grass resists a lot of heat
Could anybody tell me if I could kill the moss on my lawn by playing the flame on the mossy parts of the lawn. The grass would survive the heat and the heat would kill the moss.
Any comments much appreciated----James

It may be better digging it out. and re-seeding.
Moss is caused by drainage, shade problems - if you get rid of the cause you could get rid of the moss.
Prick lots of holes in the lawn with a fork and sweep in lawn sand which will open up the drainage and give the grass chance to fight back. Re- shade - cut back any over hanging trees, shrubs etc.
Good Luck - horrible stuff
If you have a lot of moss in your lawn it's most likely to be a symptom of Poor Drainage and possibly heavy shade or even acid conditions, so for a long term sollution it may be worth your while improving the draiage, otherwise the moss is likely to return time after time.
Scarifying, hollow tining and airation will all help for it to drain better.
Products such as 'lawn sand',or 'weed and feed' should kill the moss in the short term. Good Luck Tbird+
Contact a frim called Greenthumb. they will get rid of it and at a cheaper price than you can buy the treatment to do it yourself. As well as all the other answers cutting the grass too short also encourages moss.

There used to be a product in garden centres called - amazIngly - MOSSKILL. Worked wonderfully - but be prepared for a shock when all the moss dies and you're left with hardly any grass for a while. It does, however, encourage the grass to grow very well, so the overall effect is blilliant.
For years I have been led to believe that poor drainage is the cause of moss on lawns but my present garden has shingle underneath so drainage should be OK. For the last couple of years I have put a lawn feed down and that does get rid of most of the moss.
