If you are using XP, no third party software is reqd.
Right click on compressed file and select extract all and follow the prompts.

Windows ME also works as above, older versions of Windows need additional software, e.g winzip.

Some archive (zip) files cannot be opened as usual using WinXP. Download a free archive tool from here http://members.ozemail.com.au/~nulifetv/freezi p/freezip.exe and you wont need any other
