how do you plumb in a dishwasher when the only plumbing is for washing machine which we also have

Just break into the pipes
The easiest way is to buy a simple plastic 'Y' piece. This will replace the washing machine connection and then both machines connect into it.
A few shillings from B&Q or similar.
Hey Aquagility, you do know we went decimal in 1970 don't you?
It may only be worth 5p, Paul55, but it's still a shilling and I hope it always will be!
