I have watched this from the beginning so I am aware that the show is not always comfortable viewing, and that it tackles some issues other mainstream shows would shy away from - I am also a very big fan of the show. However, this week there was a scene where Tommy raped Janet - my problem with it was that half way through the rape Janet started to enjoy it - now I know it's not real life, but to my mind this was irresponsible. I think there is a danger that this sort of thing fuels the notion held by a small minority, that a women would in fact get pleasure from being raped.
If they wanted to show that Janet still loves/fancies Tommy, it could have been done in a much more sensitive way.
I am also a bit concerned by the sex crazed school teacher (an unfeasibly gorgeous one of course).
And does Tommy ever use a condom?
Do I need to get out more?

i too love this programme, about the rape scene,i took it that janet pretended to enjoy it to stop tommy enjoying it so much ,when she started to respond it put him off somewhat ,and slowed him down, and why should he use a condom ? he always has sex with his knickers on!!

I hadn't thought of that - perhaps you're right, although from the smug smile she gave Johnny when he arrived a few minutes later I took it that she WAS supposed to have enjoyed it.

You're right about Tommy never removing his pants - I noticed that Franco and Garrety don't either, must be in the firefighters' code.
