I considered this treatment but decided not to due to the reported side effects, and my acne probably was not bad enough to warrant the risk. There are many websites and forums dedicated to this medication, have you checked them out? I also know someone who was on it ( a woman in her 40's) and she didnt have any problems at all. I would say proceed cautiously and dont ignore any changes you feel in your body, physically or mentally. Good luck with it, some people have amazing results

My friend had it and she found it really effective (she was a medical student at the time). I think you can be monitored for the side effects. I'd definately try it.
I took roaccutane when I was in my late 20's. I had always had bad acne since I was 13 or so. It got a bit better when I reached my late teens. But when I was 28 it was the same & I was sick of having adolescent acne so I went to a dermotologist. She said my acne was very "active", it was on my face, neck, back, bum & chest. So I agreed to the drug after her telling me the side affects. I also had to sign a form saying if I got pregnant whist taking the drug, I would be responsible for the baby maybe being deformed or whatever, not the drug company. I accepted all this.
I took it for nearly a year. The side affects for me were dry skin, eyes & lips. I had to always have a lip balm on. I had one or 2 nose bleeds that came out of nowhere but there wasn't much blood - nor did they last for long.
My acne became worse, then got better - so much better! Now I only have the odd pimple, mostly only when my period is due.
Roaccutane worked for me. The side affects for me were minimal, annoying at worst. I have never had children, so this claim that some woman who took the drug 5 years ago then had a deformed baby - I can't really comment on. BUT, I believe in co-incidence, perhaps the baby would have been deformed anyway. Like taking a homeopathic remedy & it curing your disease after western medicine failed - co-incidence.
But everyone is different. The side affects are therefore different for each person.
hi there amii....i took roaccutane for around 8 months, the only side effects i had was my skin went very dry and i had a couple of nosebleeds which they said could happen but apart from that i was fine plus the doctors monitor you really closley...having regular blood tests and things like that my acne went worse at 1st then started to clear up really quickly.....plus it carrys on working up to 6 months after you stop taking the tablets.....it was the best thing i did because 3 years later my skin is still clear and 100% better than it used to be.....anyways good luck with it!!
hey, i took roccautane for 3 months, it got rid of all my spots, no adverse side effects. my skin and lips became dry so i had to use moisturiser twice a day and use lipbalm all the time, but thats a small price to pay for getting rid of all my spots. my brother also took roccutane and he didnt have any adverse side effects either.
Hi amii252 I was a guinea pig for roaccutane many years ago when it was on trial at St Marys Hospital Paddington. I had severe acne which was causing terrible scarring. Within 2 weeks of taking my skin started to heal, for me it was fantastic, & I never had acne again. Downside was the regular blood tests, extreme drying out of eyes, nose, lips. Would I take it again - Yes in a heartbeat. Good luck on whatever decision you make. xx
Hi amii252, I have been advised about the Roaccutane from my dermatologist but feel really reluctant in taking it even though I really want to sort my acne out.
I'm just worried about the side effects and using the right contraception. How are you getting on with it? Do you feel ok in yourself? I hope your getting the results you want, please let me know what you think, thanks and good luck
