Long haired hamster

Around christmas time, I decided that I wanted as a pet, a long haired hamster. Amazingly the first pet shop that I went to had them. I chose one that had black ears, beige colour fur with a white band going accross its waist. The fur was not long throughout the hamster but, mostly around the outskirts of the body.

In January some of the long fur was lost around the tail. Recently the fur has thined out around its waist, basically just to leave some long fur at the back.

Does anyone have any ideas on what could be happening, and if so how to cure it?

Thanking you all in advance!!

You probably should take it to the vet - it may be some kind of allergy, dietry problem, or skin mites. There are lots of possible causes.

Hamsters do moult in the springtime, but this sounds like the fur loss is more severe.
