I recently painted my cupboard doors (cheap mdf/melamine ones) in a standard matt paint. The ffect looks good but it has already started to chip a bit. Apparently, I haven't prepared it properly. I was thinking that to strengthen it I would varnish over the paint. Would this work or not. Someone told me the varnish would eat throught the paint.

Did you undercoat the doors? That could be the start of your problem. There is a special paint for Melamine doors which is more hard waring than standard paint, i would give that a go! Good Luck

I didn't. I saw the melamine paint after I had done it. Would it be worth going over it in this paint or do I have to sand the other paint off first and then repaint it.
