Hi

All programmes today have sponser's (i.e Corrie - Cadbury's, Hollyoaks - Extra) at the beginning I was just wondering if anybody knew which was the first programme to start the trend???

The first programme to be sponsored was the ITV National Weather on 11th September 1989 and the sponsor was Powergen.

I guess it goes back quite a long way though. In the 50's, soap companies would sponser some serial or other, giving them the name 'soap operas'. But who was first, I've no idea.
