The song about the Vietnam vet who is wheelchairbound and tries to ask his wife to stop going in to town etc. It's a very stripped down kind of song.
any ideas?

I think it's 'Ruby, don't take your love to town'

Thanks mms, that's it! Hmm Kenny Rogers eh? I'm not much of a country buff but I like this song a lot, is this Kenny Rogers' typical style?
It's pretty much his sort of story-in-a-song sort of stuff. 'Coward of the county' was always a bit of a favourite of mine.
Hi makemesmile
Have a look at YouTube for Kenny Rogers most recent video - "The Last Yen Years (Superman)." Sounds great on radio, especially when you listen to all the other schlock.
Yeah, Ruby is fairly typical of a lot of what he does.
the b side of that single is also good - 'girl, get ahold of yourself' - also 'just dropped in to see what condition my condition was in'. both country-rock crossovers.
Lucille deserves a mention!
