I have six children - so - a large family.
Add to that siblings of my own, and my wifes.
So, put it this way.
Outside of your home and family, there is the world, which often tries to gobble you up, with worries and cares and responsibilities that you don't always want or can cope with.
That's where family and friends come in, to help you and support you. But more important than even friends, are family. They're yours forever.
Excellent answer. :).
Am also from a large family and am the youngest of 4 children. To me a family is......
All the friends you will need when the others aren't there.
A voice of reason when there may be none with any.
A warm hug when life really does suck that much
The only reason that we are here.
A group of people who aren't paid to love you, don't get any visible rewards out of it and may sometimes have no reason to; but they do it anyway.

Hope this helps. Must say, I never got homework like this. :)
I'm quite the opposite - I don't speak to any of my family. I see no need for it - I have plenty of acquaintances and a few close friends (who would be the equivalent of most people's family).

Friendship to me is far more important than family - these are people who know you and love you for being you - they are not there because of some sense of duty.

I have asked several people in the past - if your brother/sister/nephew/niece etc wasn't related to you, would you keep in touch with them - the majority have said no. So why bother? Because they feel they ought to - personally I would rather have a friend who I could trust implicitly and would have my best interest at heart than someone who thinks they 'ought to' be there.
im the youngest of 7 and i hate having a big family
three good genuine friends are better,i have so called friends, and so called relatives, the so called ,the so colled are the ones who are the ones you dont trust. i have a small family.big or small dont be taken in by some people, friends or relatives
I'm the youngest of 4 by 10, 9 & 7 years. the next yungest is also a girl and the older ones boys. I cant stand my eldest brother and because of a falling out the other brother and my sister had with my mum, of which i got dragged in to kicking and screaming, i no longer speak to them. I have had friends who have treated me more like family than my siblings. Now my mum and siblings are all talking again after 8 years of silence and everyone wants to know what my problem is cause i'm quite happy without them now. They didn't want to know me during those 8 years and frankly the 8 years for me have been a lot less stressful. It's sad really cause my husbands family is quite close and his siblings for the most part get along well.
