Anyone got any ideas for something to do over the bank holiday weekend - I'm stuck in London and feel I should get out rather than spend the whole weekend watching sport, and before anyone suggests it I'm not doing the carnival this year.

Stuck in London? Well, it is a small provnicial town with very few amenities. Why not take a trip up the thames (9 for an all day ticket between westminster and greenwich) most museums and galleries are free as are the parks. Covent Garden is good for a laugh for free entertainment, Camden Lock for shopping. I think stying clear of Notting Hill would be the sane option too. Try getting a copy of Time Out for plenty of free stuff to do or the Prince of Wales Cinema off Leicester Square has some good stuff on and tickets are v. cheap at present.
I'm going to Epsom to watch the bank holiday races!
Come to Brighton. It's nice on a bank holiday and you're not far.
My spelling and grammar went to pot there, I shall spend the Bank Holiday in a remedial class.

Stuck in the sense that I'd prefer to get out of the city for the weekend but for reasons I won't go into can't. Reskout your suggestions are fine, however as a resident of this great city I'm a bit bored of the usual stuff - have done the river boats, been to plenty of the main gallaries recently and my fine local park has been well used over recent months. I was looking for something a bit different to do for a change. Doolallygirl races is not a bad idea actually, though not sure my current finances could survive the imevitable loses and as for Brighton Beale at the moment it's probably number 1 on my list - only problem I have is that it gets so crowded
Fair point on the resident issue - I don't live there all the time (to be honest, two weeks is the most I can bear in a month) so I don't have the same ennui as you. I thought you mean't you were there over the weekend as a result of business or something. You could try seeing if there is any filming going on in one of the studios and offer services as an extra - probably oversubscribed with wannabe actors though - my friend Jo does it sometimes but I cannot remember the website she uses - will post if I can get it.
Come to Ireland and enjoy a pint of Guinness with the locals.
Anyone thinking of coming to Brighton should get the train. You'll spend hours in traffic, then find you can't park. The one-way sytem is a nightmare too.
