my son is 2 in march and i gave up work to look after himwhen he was born. But i am starting a new job next week, i am a nursery nurse and he will be in the same nursery as i will be working( but not the same room). I had to go in today for a hour to go over paper work and give him a trial run, well, i burst in to tears when i walked into the room with him, he was fine , just went off and played with all the toys, i just felt so guilty and worried and this was only for one hour, God knows what i am going to be like when i leave him for the whole day!
Is this normal or am i over reacting?

It's absolutely normal!

What you do is put all your maternal adult angst into the situation, and worry about him forgetting you / resenting you / thinking he's been abandoned, and so on, and you'll fret for days until you get used to it.

What he does is think - great! New toys!

It's a mum thing, and you will get past it - promise.
I'm neither a woman or a parent but being the uncle of 7, I have seen my siblings and / or their partners go through it tonnes of times.
It must be normal.
Recently my sister in law had to return to work and take my latest nephew to day care (or creche, or whatever they called it) and she apparently wouldn't stop crying all afternoon. That was for 3 hours while she nipped in to work to get new car part passes and security bits.
It is perfectly normal and is part of parenting apparently. Wait until they go to proper school, then to seniors and then leave home. Plenty more to come but good luck. :)
Babalicious,
youre very lucky that your son will be in the same buliding as you.

Please do try and not go into to his room unless in emergency and if you cannot avoid it, be semi-professional and just wave to him and try hard to walk back out. Im saying this from two points of view - one as a NN who has had to deal with working mums coming in and neglecting their own duties to play with their child and also putting me ina difficult position of NOT being able to carry on with my daily routine, discipline the child and having to deal with the 8 other children who also wanted to be cuddled all day. And from the point of seeing how difficult it is for a mum to remain professional while seeing her child upset in the room next to her or hearing them cry or get told off.

It is hard and it will cause you to be really upset sometimes - but it is well worth it. He will grow up to be an independent little boy.

Have fun and good luck in your new job
Flower xx
