Can anyone tell me what maternity rights and pay I have? I have worked as a civil servant on a 52 week contract, but yesterday I was taking on by a facilities company doing the same job, in the same place. I don't think I am entitled to maternity pay, just the �108 odd pounds a week from the goverment. Is this correct? Also, I don't get paid sick leave for the first 3 days off. If it a pregnancy related illness, will I get paid or will the normal rule apply? And will I get paid antenatal appointments? Thanks

Is your job full time? Was your job transferred to your new employer under TUPE? I.e. did you leave your previous employer and get re-employed or did you seamlessly join the new company?

If the later, a full time job under TUPE (ask your HR dept), you should retain the rights you accrued under the previous employer, including maternity pay.

Pregnancy illnesses are generally the same as any other illness with the normal exception (and this can vary from place to place) that if you are sick within a certain time of the due date (in ours it's within a month) they will then make you go off on maternity leave starting immediately.

Check this for your rights, but yes, you do get paid ante-natal appointments.

Yes, my job is full time. I don't think the TUPE law applies in my case as i was contracted for 51 weeks (just under a year - clever)and because the goverment didn't want to pay me, although they still needed me beyond the 51 weeks, the facilities company that provides my work with catering, post, on site shop etc has agreed to pay my wages (stupidly goverment pays them my wages+6%). So I finished my employment so to speak with the goverment on Friday 19th and went back to work on mon 22nd, but as an employee of this facilties company. It's hard to explain. nothing has changed in my job, except the people who pay me.
