I have just found out that there is a high chance that i am going to be made redundant. So i have got my thinking hat on for new things to do. I thought of setting up my own washing and ironing company, as i know myself these are the things when you are working that you never seem to have time for. Anyway i was just wondering if anyone on here would use one or am i just being silly?

I know a lot of working mothers who wash their own clothes at home but then hand over the clothes for ironing, maybe to cut down on costs and not have the embarassment of giving someone your dirty washing. If you haven't got this kind of ironing service in your area you're bound to make a business of it. You could also suggest a service for taking suits etc to dry-cleaners and picking them up and if you're good at sewing/mending that's another service....
Yes, I could see it working, perhaps in a small way. You would need to think about how and where to advertise and how much to charge for the service. Don't forget the hidden costs such as increased electricity bill (if you're intending doing this from home) plus heating etc.

I guess you'd also need to consider what you'd do if you damaged someone's best clothes whilst ironing or if the washing machine chewed them up or you got coloureds in with whites etc.
Just check out your competition first. I absolutely HATE Ironing and saw a van last week that advertised an ironing service - waht a good idea I thought, I'll give them, a ring.

When I got to work I couldn't remember the name of the company so went onto Yell.com and was amazed at how many people just in my area offer this service, there must have been at least 20!
It's a great idea - if you can get the customers. My sister gets all her ironing done - the bloke who runs the firm employs lots of little old ladies and he just spends the day ferrying laundry around town. He drives a BMW so he must be doing something right! Just make sure you sort out your tax, health and safety etc as well.
