We have just moved into a new house and it seems that the address is blacklisted. How can we find out if this is true.

ALM1706 - Contact Experian, a credit rating company, you can always post a message against your details, stating you've just moved in etc click here.
Do not post a message on experian! I work for a credit company and I can tell you that these are either never read or viewed very dimly. An address can not be blacklisted. The search information that we receive are specific to a name. We do see any previous tennants /people who lived there on voters role, but all county court judgement and arrears data are name relevant. The only way any information can be viewed is if you share the same name as previous owners. Then you will need to contact Experian & Equifax and submit a "notice of disassociation". Contact Experian on 0870 241 6212 and Equifax on 0870 010 0583
In response to Oneeyedvic, perhaps things have changed or maybe individual companies keep their own blacklists, but 8 years ago I moved into rented accommodation & had major problems getting re-connected to BT. I was told on numerous occasions that as the previous occupiers had been bad payers, the address was subject to credit restrictions and I would be required to pay a deposit (about 200 if I remember correctly) with call limits being placed on my account. It was only because I had been a BT customer for almost 10 years previous with a perfect credit rating and because I persisted with several phone calls to BT that I eventually got connected as normal. Sorry ALM1706, doesn't really answer your question - all I can say is if you're having trouble with a particular company you could ask them if you're on a list of some sort? Oh and never take 'No' for an answer!
