Can anyone tell me process for bottling and preserving olives picked fresh from the tree?

I hope you are more successful than I was following an almost identical recipe. I bought a large bag of olives back from a holiday in Portugal one year and followed intrustions to the "T". They all turned slimey and black and I had to throw them all away. Big disappointment.

The link BBWCHATT has given says the olives should be soaked first in a solution of sodium hydroxide. Perhaps that's the crucial factor Wendy?

I'll try it both ways - and let you know the outcome. Thanks everyone.
