If the battery runs out on an Ipod, does it lose all of the data on its memory?

No. The data is stored in the ipod's memory and will still be there when you recharge the battery.
As kags said 'no', but infact the ipod is actually a portable hard-drive, so everything is stored magnetically on the disc, so it's just like the fact you don't lose any stored data when you turn off your computer. Also, you have to have all the music on your i-pod stored on your computer as well. So even if you did lose everything on your i-pod, the next time you connected it to your computer, the files would automatically be transferred back to the i-pod.
