I have heard that too, I think it is just a guide .... of course any gal would be happy to accept more !!!
I should hope there is no 'rule' of spending. And if there is, it should be broken. It's not how much it costs that matters surely? One out of a cracker would mean the same to me!
I also have heard that. i once thought that was a good guide but to be honest when my bf pops the big one, (which i'm hoping, any day now) I'd honestly be happy with a lil 50p plastic one from one of those machines!

Although he does know which rings I do prefer and I have guided him to the less ridiculously expensive ones! Luckily I have long thin fingers so a HUGE rock would just look comical on my lil fingers!
traditionally it was a months wages but does it really matter. If you found 2 rings you liked, one beautiful ring at 300 and one garish ring at 1500 surely you would go with the nicer?
At the end of the day its the feelings behind the ring that count, not the cost
Ive heard that too. I would love a cheap one as it really means alot to me then.
I believe this to be true i was engaged and spent 2000 on a ring sadly we split 5 months later and she kept the ring what a cheek

hehe im not planning on getting married yet! i suppose i sounded like a gold digger! ha! no, it just came up in conversation and i wanted to prove that there was a tradition cos he didnt believe me! i would be happy with anything as well, the shock that he had actually asked me would be the main thing in my mind!! hehe! :0)
ive been with my bloke for 4 years in March this year, he is 23 and im 22! I keep thinking he'll propse to me and tak out this big ring as he always shows me which ones he likes in the shops - come on!!!
your exactly right, according to lunns they suggest 1 to 2 months wages, its for life u only get one engagement ring!
I just got engaged an my man spend 400 on the ring, which was much more than I expected!!! I think it's important to spend a little i.e. a couple hundred, because it's a commitment and it's to show how much your partner means, but at the same time there's no need to go over board. The extra grand he earns per month would be much better spent on my wedding dress lol.
