Digital Speed Cameras on the M6

Les hommes dans bleu have been very crafty and installed digital speed cameras along the M6 in the roadworks near Stoke. My question is that when I drove back from Manchester late on Monday night, because I knew of their existence I stayed within the 40mph speed limit for a painstakingly slow 3 miles. However there must have been a lot of drivers unaware of them who sped past me. My question is.... aren't speed cameras supposed to be made visible? Is that not why the Gatsos have bright Flourescent green backs?

Plod must be making loads from drivers unaware of these cameras at night-time?

Not absolutely sure, but I seem to remember reading that if the cameras are in temporary works, they don't have to be 'yellow' as long as there is a signed warning approaching the works. When I was working on a section of the M1 (J14-15) 2 years ago, they were recording over 10,000 'hits' a week!

The rule is that all fixed speed cameras in safety camera partnership areas must be painted yellow and be clearly visible.  Those in the road works would not be fixed.

Incidentally, the police have little connection with most speed cameras.

If it isnt visible, then the fines go to the government and cant be claimed back by the force
