I've been emailed this, this morning does anyone know if its true, or where i go to find out, i've tried googling but cant find anything definitive

As of the 1st April 2006 the new digital automated tracking system between junctions 3 & 7b on the M42 is scheduled to go live.
There are 276 Digital Cameras which have been set to 2MPH tolerance
You will not see any flash. The 1st you will know when you have been caught is the day the postman delivers the �60 fine

The police are obliged to release locations of speed cameras (fixed and mobile). check out their web site. Not sure of the tolerance though. And no, theres no flash. the little ******* just look like yellow cctv cameras.

They aren't speed cameras, they are flow monitors and update the speed limit info on the gantry. By slowing and speeding up the flow of traffic they hope to control and cut congestion as more vehicles traveling at 40 can fit into the same space. There are speed cameras there, (you are advised to obey the limits like anyother) but not 276!

No prosecution will ever go to court with that level of tollerance. Its not a safe conviction. The holy grail is 10% +3 above the stat limit but belive that at your peril. Try the highways agency for more info.

Don't drive the M42 much anymore but there was talk about putting a variable speed limit in place similar to that used on the west side of the M25.

If and when there is a speed limit showing on the overhead boards then the system will monitor the traffic is at that speed and anything over will be caught by cameras.

The idea is to keep the flow of traffic maintained.

The small cameras above each lane (facing you) are the flow cameras and are not there via the police nor any authority but by companies such as the AA and used for traffic information systems. These are allegedly capable of capturing data to prosocute, however the information is not given to anyone. The AA have a stance on speed cameras which is very against them.
