Hi,

Just a couple of questions regarding Ushers at a wedding......

1. What is the maximum number of Ushers aloud at a wedding - I'm thinking I could have three to four, is this too many?

2. Should they and the best man pay for their own hire suits?

Thanks
Chris

It's usually a matter of choice these days, so go with what you feel you;d like.

Choice of users can often come down to the number of male relatives you;d like to include in some way on the day. If your wedding is a reasonable size - say anything over 75 at the church, the four ushers is fine - just make sure they are relaxed about their duties, it's not a competition or a race, so as long as everyone gets a 'turn' at seating guests it should be fine.

I think it is good maners for the groom to pay for all the dress suits, as it is good manners for the bride to fund the trousseau and bridesmaid's outfits - but again, it depends on the choices - and budgets - of those involved.

If you and your partner can't afford to pay for outfits, there is nothing wrong at all with mentioning that to the individuals involved. If they are cloe enough to b e bridesmaids or ushers. they are close enough to kno that you;d love to pay, but can;t manage it, and they can each stand the hire themselves.

Hope this helps.
As for numbers, anything goes! If you want six then have six, I was at a wedding recently where there were three best men!

I personally would rather pay for the hire of the outfits, but having the experience of my own wedding, I know that it can be very expensive. As andy-hughes says "If they are cloe enough to b e bridesmaids or ushers. they are close enough to kno that you;d love to pay, but can;t manage it". But if you really don't want to say that to them, and still want to keep money down, why not just suggest they all wear their own clothes. They'll be happy to be able to help you out and I'm sure would all do their best to turn themselves out as smart as possible!

Remember Ushers can come in handy after the actual ceremony too when the bridal party goes off to get photos taken, they can help with keeping feuding family members in tow (or maybe that's just my family!).

Good luck for the big day!
just make sure that you all tie different coloured string on any cutlery you lend out for the do afterwards so's u know whose is whose afterwards.
Hi Chris. My daughter is getting married in May and they're having 2 ushers as there's just 42 guests. My future SIL is paying for the hire of the suit's, 8 men in all. He's having 2 best men as he could'nt choose between his 2 best mates. I dont it's tradition for the groom to have to pay for any suits. I told my daughter it's not traditional anymore for the bride's parents to fork out for her dress, bridesmaid's etc but she was'nt having any of it,she's not daft:-))
